In the Leyawin Mages Guild Hall. There is a chest in one of the rooms. It looks like an office with a desk and alchemy stuff and soul gems and whatnot. In the chest is 'a rusty key'. I can't find what it goes to. The wiki doesn't even have info on it.

It is a fantastic game. I don't think it's such a huge back-step in terms of UI, and game mechanics to the degree that it would be terribly difficult to transition to from Skyrim. Certainly not to the degree that transitioning back to Morrowind would be, (I love Morrowind BTW, but the transition back to it can be difficult, for people who either aren't that interested, or have no previous experience with it).

If you're terribly concerned about graphics quality there are excellent mods available to improve them. I played Obliviom in the mid-2000s on my 360 and put in several hundred hours. Oblivion is a great game, you can find how it's different from skyrim (and morrowind). It's leveling system is a bit dated (typical for early rpg games) - upon level up you increase one of the 7 attributes, eg.

The strength attribute governs the skills: blunt, blade and hand-to-hand. In order to get strength +5 increase instead of only +1 you have to level the 3 skills up by 10 levels (ie. Blunt by 5 levels and blade by 5 levels = 10 levels). Strength affects how much you can carry, the effectiveness with melee weapons and how much fatigue (=stamina) you have.

Just learned you have to have at least 30 strength to drag dead bodies too:). You think NPCs in Skyrim can be repetitive? Try a skill leveling system that requires you to push four buttons in a unique sequence for every individual. Each button has two potential scripted responses (favorable or unfavorable). You do this multiple times until you have leveled THAT CHARACTER'S reputation with you (so you potentially have to do this with everyone you meet, especially in early game). So by the time you max out your speechcraft skill you will have heard the same eight responses thousands of times (such adventures, I admire you!

Blow away, windbag. Oh talk tough to me, I love tough guys.

My life is drab and unimportant by comparison. I would get it cheap if I were you. Because it hasn't aged well - PC is the best bet so you can improve some things like changing out the god awful potato heads.

Just some points;. There are some really great quests here - look to the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild.

A fair number of characters change voice / accent from one answer to the next; this may hurt your immersion. Oblivion gates become a repetitive and tired system. Spells are more varied and numerous. Potato heads. There is no perk system - you choose which skills start higher and choose either Magic, Combat or Stealth skills to level faster. Skills automatically gain something every 25 levels or so.

There are more skills - a skill for jumping, a skill for running and a skill for soul-catching. To level up you have to sleep in a bed. Foes scale in gear with you (get far enough and you will encounter Glass wielding bandits for example). Crafting is limited to Alchemy - it is not a skill. Weapons and gear degrade, requiring repairs. (Repair is also a skill).

And in good TES fashion; you start as a Prisoner. There are some more things, but I think this gives you a good idea.
